21 ex-NPA rebels get P1.2-M cash aid
DAVAO CITY- Some 21 former members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) received a total amount of P1.265 million from the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP).

Philippine Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion in its report said that 19 of the of beneficiaries received P65,000 Livelihood Assistance while two of them only qualified fo a P25,000 immediate assistance in a ceremony facilitated by the Davao Del Sur's Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) during the Provincial Local Government Unit's convocation on March 20 held at Provincial Coliseum, Digos City, Davao del Sur.

Prior to the receiving of assistance, the 19 beneficiaries underwent additional orientation and training during the 3-month Tupad Pangako Program.

The former communist rebels also underwent deradicalization intervention for their reintegration to their respective communities and families.

Alias Jane, a member of the NPA’s Guerilla Front 51 of Southern Mindanao Regional Committee expressed optimism after she surrendered to authorities and received the assistance.

“This will be of great help for us to restart our lives and become responsible citizens of this country. I know that the process will be hard, but with the help of the government, I am sure all of us can really achieve peaceful lives,” Jane said in vernacular.
