Quezon City teen is World Wushu Champion
DAVAO CITY---In the boy's qiangshu event at the ongoing 8th World Junior Wushu Championships in Indonesia, Sandrex Gainsan won the gold medal.

The 16-year-old pride of Quezon City outscored closest competitors Ian Shao Yang of Singapore and Hew Wei Peng of Malaysia by 9.170 points in the taolu competition.

Ten athletes participated in the competition including wushu competitors from the USA, New Zealand, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

At the 2019 Asian Junior Championships, Gainsan won the gold medal in the same qiangshu competition.

While this was going on, Team Philippines' Vincent Ventura added a bronze medal to their tally by finishing third in the boy's nando with 9.126 points, trailing only the gold and silver medalists from Korea and Malaysia.

Thursday afternoon's first medalist was Zion Daraliay, who finished third in the girls' taijiquan.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
