North Cotabato lady chesser wins Mindanao Ladies Chess Open 2022
DAVAO CITY – A promising lady chesser from North Cotabato ruled the Mindanao Ladies Chess Open 2022 on March 6.

Nathalie Liscano won a P1,500 cash prize after winning the tournament participated in by some of the top lady chess players in Mindanao.

Taking second place in the tournament is Trina Mhariz from Glan, Sarangani Province.

Mhariz won a P1,000 cash prize.

The third place went to last year's winner our very own Arena Grand Master Rowelyn-Joy Acedo who won P700 cash prize.

Last February 14, 2021, Acedo also won the winner-take-all P25,000 online chess tournament.

Acedo beat Kim “The Gambling Mathematician” Zafra, a veteran chesser and businessman based in Europe 7.5 to 1.5 to win the Valentines’ Day chessfest.

Acedo, a former college chess varsity player of Dela Salle University in the UAAP used her skills to defeat Zafra in their match.

Acedo got the chance to face Zafra in the finals after she scored 13 points in 16 matches to win the elimination round of the tournament participated in by 16 of the top women chess players in the Philippines. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
