23 Santo Tomas residents enlisted in Balik Probinsya program to get P50k aid
DAVAO CITY—A total of 23 residents of Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte who were enrolled in the government’s Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) program that aims to decongest the National Capital Region will receive a maximum of P50 000 as a livelihood settlement grant once they return in the town, Mayor Ernesto Evangelista said in a statement, Monday (Dec.6).

Evangelista said the BP2 program would benefit low-income families who will opt to move out from Metro Manila or other highly urbanized cities and return to or relocate to other provinces such as Davao del Norte.

The Santo Tomas government and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Friday, to implement the BP2 Program in the town.

For her part, Municipal Administrator lawyer Elisa Evangelista said the Evangelista administration would seek more assistance from the national government so that all Tomasinos can benefit from the programs and services that will be cascaded to the Santo Tomas LGU.

Also, Municipal Area Coordinator Carlo Jack Pino said the assistance that the government would provide to the program's beneficiaries would help the transition to their new life in Santo Tomas.

Pino said  the Santo Tomas LGU is working with the national government to decentralize economic opportunities and help the government streamline its operations by bringing in more people to the provinces.

“Kining B2P program is voluntary.

MSWDO-OIC Leilani Mae Rafol on the other hand, said their office is coordinating with the DSWD to help ensure their readiness for the possible influx of the expected residents, especially the processing of their documents for their benefits.

The resident-beneficiaries were from Barangay New Katipunan, Tibal-og, La Libertad, Bobongon, Talomo, Pantaron, Balagunan, and New Visayas.

Rafol explained that each family is entitled to receive P50K as stipulated under the Memorandum Circular No.12 Series of 2021 of the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Program. (Armando Fenequito)
