To help improve the fire response in the country, Go principally authored and co-sponsored Republic Act No. 11589, otherwise known as the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021. The Act mandates the bureau to undergo a modernization program that includes procuring of new fire equipment, expanding manpower, and conducting specialized training for firefighters.
It also directs the BFP to conduct monthly fire prevention campaigns and information drives in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and local government units.
In a video message, Go reminded the 22 affected families to always prioritize their safety, especially at this time of health crisis, saying, “Nakakalungkot man po na nasunugan kayo pero ang importante po ay magtulungan tayo at kayo ay ligtas. Ang gamit po naman ay nabibili, pero ang perang kikitain ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay.”
Held at Barangay Sainz Gymnasium, Go’s team provided grocery packs, snacks, masks, vitamins and shirts to the fire victims and provided select beneficiaries with shoes, slippers, umbrellas, cellular phones, and balls for basketball and volleyball.
Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended cash assistance to help the affected families sustain their daily needs. The National Housing Authority likewise assessed the victims for possible housing assistance.
Furthermore, the Department of Labor and Employment and the Department of Trade and Industry conducted assessments for potential recipients of their respective livelihood support grants. Lastly, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority also evaluated qualified beneficiaries for its scholarship program.
As head of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go offered additional assistance to those with health issues. The senator informed them to get in touch with his office and reminded them to also seek the services of the Malasakit Center at Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center in the city.
There are currently 152 Malasakit Centers nationwide that have assisted millions of poor and indigent patients, as of writing. The program was institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11462 which was primarily authored and sponsored by Go.
The Act ensures that Filipinos have more convenient access to medical assistance programs of the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
“Kung kailangan niyo po ng tulong sa pagpapaopera sa Maynila, sabihan niyo lang po ang aking opisina o kaya lumapit po kayo kay Mayor o kahit sino po sa ating local officials, magsabi lang ho kayo. Andito po kami at handa kaming tumulong sa abot ng aming makakaya,” he vowed.
Meanwhile, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go also supported several initiatives in the city to help boost its development. Among these are the road improvements in several areas, and construction of several infrastructures, including the Davao Sports Complex, a multipurpose building, and the Mati City Super Health Center.
Furthermore, there will also be three more Super Health Centers that will be established in Davao Oriental.
Super Health Centers are medium versions of polyclinics and are bigger than rural health units, which offer basic services such as out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy, and ambulatory surgical unit, among others.
