P5.5M smuggled tobacco seized in Toril checkpoint
DAVAO CITY- An estimated P5.5 million worth of smuggled cigarettes were confiscated by the authorities in a checkpoint in Barangay Eden, Toril District this city on Monday night, Dec. 23, 2024.

The checkpoint, which   was manned by the police and military,  intercepted 140 boxes and another six packs of smuggled tobacco with an estimated street value of P5.5 million.

Authorities seized the smuggled items inside a canter elf van passing through  the checkpoint.

The elf van was driven by a certain Arjon, 40, a resident of Purok 29, Ocean View Phase 1-A, Brgy Ilang, Davao City with his helper alias Rommel,  34 years old. They were flagged down around 9:35 p.m.

The personnel from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) had already conducted the initial inventory of said items.

The suspects are now temporarily detained at Toril Police Station  while the confiscated items  were properly turned over to the BOC for proper disposition.

 A case for violation of the Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff  Act   is being prepared for filing against the arrested individuals.
