The military’s 20-minute encounter against 20 NPA rebels ensued around 9:30 a.m. in the hinterlands of So Minlanag, Brgy Lawaan, Gingoog City.
The military has yet to identify the slain communist rebel.
Firearms seized include two M16 rifles, five short and one long magazine for M16 rifle and one twenty three (123) 5.56mm ammunition. Some subversive documents and personal items were also seized.
"The encounter is a result of the ongoing effort and active steps to thwart terrorist activities, as commanded by the Commander-in-Chief, that is to finally put an end to insurgency before his term ends this June 2022,´ Lt Col. Ricky L. Canatoy, the commanding officer of the 58th Infantry Battalion said.
Canatoy urged other NPA rebels to surrender and live a new life.
