Acting Presidential Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles during the televised briefing at the Mindanao Media Hub said the government is seeing an increase on COVID-19 cases among the pediatric population and hospital admissions in the coming days.
“Given their unvaccinated status,” he said.
Nograles also said the government is also expecting a spike of active cases in the country due to the holiday activities where the movement of the people increased and the drop of its compliance to the minimum public health standards.
“Nakita naman natin sa mga nakaraang araw ay nag-increase exponentially ang mga kaso dahil sa holiday activities (We have already seen the exponential increase of our cases due to holiday activities),” he said.
He said the government needs to be on alert due to he detection of the local cases of Omicron variant.
Nograles said the epidemiological investigation on the three Omicron variant cases indicate that there is a high possibility of local transmission in the country.
Meanwhile, he said the IATF ordered the Technical Working Group led by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the National Vaccination Operations Center to make guidelines for its strict implementation against unvaccinated persons.
