In a statement released Thursday evening, DCPO said that following the incident, the police promptly conducted a follow-up on the killing of Castillones and initiated counter operations to identify and apprehend his perpetrators.
Castillones was shot dead in broad daylight by an unidentified gunman around 10:20 a.m on Wednesday (Nov. 22) along Kilometer 5 Buhangin, Davao City.
Castillones just finished eating breakfast at a fast food chain in said place and was about to leave on board a Mitsubishi Expander when he was shot by a male assailant.
The suspect who boarded a motorcycle immediately sped off after the incident.
Castilones' driver Junie Castro also sustained gunshot wounds and still currently recuperating in the hospital.
According to DCPO “investigators are diligently conducting a thorough examination, reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas, and employing all available means to resolve the case.”
The police are now urgently appealing to the public to report any pertinent information to the authorities to fast track the identification and location of the suspects.
“This will aid in bringing them to justice and providing closure to the grieving family,” the statement reads.
DCPO, meanwhile, strongly condemns this act of lawlessness and assures the public that the police force is committed to upholding the law and will not tolerate such heinous crimes.
With this, the Special Investigation Task Group Castillones has been swiftly launched to accelerate the acquisition of information through a thorough and exhaustive series of investigations.
DCPO encourages the public to exercise vigilance and assist law enforcement in securing and protecting everyone in the city.

Castillones was elected vice mayor in the municipality of Cateel in 1982 and later assumed as mayor by law of succession from 1983 to 1986.
