Davao City fire razes 235 houses
Up to 235 houses were destroyed by fire Tuesday morning, Nov. 14.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported that the fire started past 7 a.m. in Soliman 8th Avenue, Brgy. Tomas Monteverde here and was contained at around 9:14 a.m.

Hundreds of families who lost their homes were temporarily housed at the covered courts of said barangay and nearby villages. 

DCPO in a report said that a certain Rolando Albizo, 49 years old and a resident of the place revealed that at around 7:21 a.m while he was outside their house he saw a fire coming from the ceiling of the second floor of the house owned by William Alameida Varona. He said the fire hastily spread to neighboring structures made of light materials. 

The City Social Welfare and Development Office distributed food and essential relief supplies to the fire victims. 

Arson investigators are still probing the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, damage to properties was initially estimated at P1.6 million.
