Davao City celebrates Chinese New Year Jan. 21
The City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) in partnership with the Davao City Chinatown Development Council, will hold the 2023 Chinese New Year Program at Rizal Park on Saturday (Jan. 21).

Speaking at the I-Speak Forum on Thursday (Jan. 19) at the Davao City Hall Conference room, CTOO Operations Assistant Alice Cadao said the activity will be attended by city officials, guests from the 11 tribes, the Chinese Consulate Office, and the Chinese community in Davao City.

This year’s celebration will start with a Holy Mass at the San Pedro Cathedral around 5 pm and followed by a Special Program by 6:30 pm at Rizal Park.

Dragon and lion dances will be showcased as part of the Chinese cultural tradition.

Cadao said while the event will be done to welcome the Chinese New Year, this will not involve a countdown to midnight.

Cadao, meanwhile, encouraged Davaoeños to still observe health protocols such as wearing face masks voluntarily during the event.

“Same sa Pasko Fiesta, magsadya lang gyud ta,” Cadao said.

Task Force Davao Commander Colonel Darren Comia said they have already set up security measures to ensure a peaceful celebration.
