Davao City college basketball powerhouses renew rivalry in PCCL Semis

DAVAO CITY---The traditional college basketball powerhouses in Davao City are set to face each other in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) semifinals at the Davao City Recreation Center, better known as Almendras Gym, on the afternoon of April 12.

The Holy Cross of Davao College Crusaders will face the University of Mindanao Wildcats at 1 p.m. while the Rizal Memorial Colleges Bulldogs seek an upset win against the taller and more powerful Jose Maria College Kings around 2 p.m. on the same day.

After a Kenneth Yap buzzer-beater basket against Cor Jesu College of Digos City, 110-107, Holy Cross of Davao College advanced to the semifinals. Yap made a tough three-pointer with 4.6 seconds left in regulation.

Under the guidance of head coach Prince Macavinta, RMC defeated Ateneo de Davao University 77–58, while the University of Mindanao Wildcats defeated the resolute Philippine Women's College Patriots 87–83.

Jose Maria Colleges Kings, winners of the 2022 LYR Cup, qualified for the semifinals with a 73-62 victory over Agro Industrial Foundation College Sailors. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
