On September 4, unbeaten Davaoeno boxer Lienard Sarcon beat South Korean champ Jong Seon Kang with powerful punches throughout their ten-round duel at the Tech University of Korea in Siheung City, South Korea.
Fighting for the first time abroad, Sarcon knocked down Kang in the third round.
Kang survived the knockdown, but the Filipino still won his bout on points in the end.
With his win, Sarcon improved to 10-0-0 while Kang suffered his first-ever defeat, 15-1-2.
Sarcon, who began fighting professionally in 2017, had a strong showing in Gerry Pealosa's Ultimate Boxing Series Bantamweight Tournament in 2019.
He defeated Cebuano Rimon Rama in the fourth round of the quarterfinals, Gary Tamayo in a split decision, and Aljum Pelesio in the finals by a majority decision.
Sarcon returned in 2021 with a third round stoppage of Mark Glen Antaran at Gen. Santos City, following a gap in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He stopped Ian Ligutan in the first round on February 6 in Digos City. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
