Trillanes posts bail after surrender in perjury case
Former Senator Antonio F. Trillanes IV voluntarily surrendered to the Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 131 in Quezon City on July 8, 2025, and posted bail in connection with a criminal case for False Testimony in Other Cases under Article 183, paragraph 1 of the Revised Penal Code.

The case was filed by Davao City First District Representative Paolo Z. Duterte, who accused Trillanes of making malicious and unfounded statements under oath during a House hearing in November 2024.

Trillanes allegedly implicated Duterte and his family—including his brother-in-law, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio—in illegal drug activities, despite what prosecutors say is a lack of credible basis or evidence.

Following the Office of the City Prosecutor’s finding of probable cause, the court issued a warrant of arrest on July 7. Trillanes surrendered the next day and posted an ₱18,000 cash bond, leading the court to lift the electronic warrant.

This, however, is not the only legal trouble hounding the former senator.

Aside from the Quezon City case, Trillanes is also facing other criminal complaints filed by Atty. Mans Carpio, the husband of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Additionally, he is currently involved in a separate case pending before a local court in Davao City, further complicating his legal woes.

These cases all stem from Trillanes’ repeated public accusations implicating members of the Duterte family in criminal activities—accusations that government prosecutors and complainants say were knowingly false and politically motivated.

The court ordered both parties to submit their respective judicial affidavits and evidence at least five days before the pre-trial. Trillanes also has the option to submit his own judicial affidavit within 10 days from receipt of the prosecution’s affidavits.

The outcome of this case, and others pending against him, may determine whether Trillanes’ long-standing crusade against the Duterte family will now face serious legal consequences in court.
