DAVAO CITY- The troops under Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) is on high alert in preparation for Monday’s Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023.

EastMinCom in its report said they committed to ensuring the safety and integrity of the electoral process, adding the command has taken proactive measures to maintain peace and security in the region.

As of October 28, EastMinCom recorded 11 individuals were arrested for gun ban violations with confiscation of 11 low-powered firearms and a total of 116 ammunition.

These actions are part of EastMinCom's commitment to enforcing the gun ban and preventing potential threats to the electoral process.

According to EastMinCom spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Rosa Ma. Cristina Manuel designated troops are prepared to provide security and escorts for the simultaneous distribution of ballot boxes to polling places.

She said the area's categorization of election hotspots, as declared by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), remains unchanged. In Davao Region, the authorities have identified 11 barangays as election areas of concern under the yellow category.

EastMinCom's Joint Task Forces, in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP), have established 102 checkpoints with a total of 848 personnel to maintain law and order.

Joint Security Coordinating Center Liaison Officers are closely monitoring regions, municipalities, and cities to ensure a safe and secure electoral environment.

EastMinCom in coordination with Comelec, PNP, and other law enforcement agencies, stands ready to prevent any election-related violence that could compromise the right to suffrage of the Filipino people.

Lieutenant General Greg T Almerol, EastMinCom commander. issued directives to ground commanders to proactively prevent and disrupt activities of communist terrorist and local terrorist groups aiming to hinder the conduct of a conflict-free and impartial election.

He said these groups are already weakened and soon to be dismantled.

“Hence, they may instead resort to extortion activities and manipulate both voters and politicians to comply with their demands,” Almerol said.

Almerol also reminded voters and candidates to never give in to these threat groups, as it will do more harm to peace and security in our communities.

The EastMinCom, meanwhile, assures the public that its personnel always maintain a non-partisan stance and will continue to uphold the interests of the Filipino people in its joint operational area without favoring any political entity.
