DSWD, 10th ID agree to fast-track disaster aid, response
DAVAO CITY- The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry (AGILA) and Department of Social Welfare and Development Davao Region (DSWD) 11 have agreed to provide immediate assistance to disaster- affected areas in Davao Region.

A memorandum of understanding signed by the military and DSWD in a ceremony held at Camp General Manuel T Yan Sr. in Mawab, Davao De Oro, Tuesday (May 2) aims to fast-track the disaster response efforts of the DSWD in collaboration with the 10th ID in prepositioning food and non-food relief items at a storage facility inside its headquarters in Mawab.

The 230 square-meter facility from 10th ID will also serve as an augmentation to the local government unit’s emergency response preparedness measures.

DSWD 11 Regional Director Lawyer Goc-Ong said that more than prepositioning relief goods, the agreement will also bolster good relations between DSWD and the Philippine Army as well as the LGUs.

“I am very confident that this partnership will be able to provide better services to the affected communities and contribute to the overall goal of building more resilient and disaster-prepared communities," Goc-Ong said in a report from 10th ID.

10th ID Commander Major General Jose Eriel Niembra emphasized they are not only focused on warfighting but also on other aspects of nation-building including disaster response.

Niembra recognized the importance of the soldiers’ role as one of the first responders in any emergency, whether natural or man-made.
