Davao City logs 77 fire incidents in 3 months
DAVAO CITY- Senior Fire Officer 4 (SFO4) Ramil Gillado, the spokesman of the City Fire District said that the fire incidents had increased from 32 of January to March last year to 77 in the same period this year.

Speaking at AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing Wednesday (March 29) at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Gillado said half of these fire incidents involved grass and rubbish fire.

“Kini ang atong mapansin during fire prevention month considering init ang panahon,mudaghan ang cases sa grass on fire,” Gillado said.

He said about P31 million has been recorded in damage to property for three months compared to P8 million of last year’s first quarter.

Gillado said the most significant fire incident that happened in the city was on February 25 when a fire razed about 1,200 houses in two barangays in Piapi Boulevard.

He said the Bureau of Fire Protection will still continue to conduct education awareness and fire drills. He said they have just concluded a series of fire drills in four shopping malls in the city where the fire team taught the participants on the proper stop, drop, and roll technique in case their clothes are on fire.

Gillado, meanwhile, reminds Davaoeños to unplug unused appliances before leaving their houses for the long Holy Week vacation to avoid electrical short circuits that may cause afire.
