City Tourism Operations Office OIC Jennifer Romero said they are expecting many events that will pull in visitors to the city.
“The MICECON and all activities for March, the Ironman and Araw ng Dabaw we are expecting mutaas ang tourist arrivals (tourist arrivals will go up),” Romero said.
Romero said the city registered 897,946 tourist arrivals for the entire 2022.
She said the banner year was in 2019 when the city had 2.5 million visitors.
“We are already 355 if we compare it in 2019, the banner year,” Romero said.
Based on the forecast they have a target of 1.8 million tourist arrivals for 2023, 2.5 million for 2024 and 2.7 million for 2025.
“As there are many events coming over most likely the 2023 will somehow reach the same number of tourist arrival for 2019. Our optimism is based on the data we are gathering at the same time the upcoming events and of course the restrictions na loosen up na siya. All roads lead to Davao and we are really highlighting MICE,” Romero said.
According to the city’s tourism chief the strength of Davao is really into MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) events as there are local meetings and conventions being line up.
The coming MICECON (MICE Convention) which will have 500 expected guests is expected to strengthen the city’s positioning for the MICE market.
Another big convention is the Integrated Bar of the Philippines National Convention 2023 slated Feb.16-18 which is expected to attract 3,000 to 5,000 lawyers all over the country to the city. (PIA/RG Alama)
