Church leaders declare support for VP Sara Duterte, distance themselves from Rep. Abante
A group of church leaders and pastors from various Baptist congregations have publicly declared their support for Vice President Sara Duterte, while clarifying that fellow religious leader and lawmaker Manila 6th District Rep. Benny Abante does not represent their collective position.

In a signed manifesto, dozens of religious leaders expressed their “undivided support” for the Duterte family, particularly Vice President Duterte, amid the country’s escalating political tensions.

The document shows that the manifesto was presented through PPP Representative Harold James Duterte and signed by pastors and leaders from 75 Pilgrim Bible Baptist Churches, along with affiliated congregations from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

In the statement, the group emphasized their stand against corruption and voiced support for the Vice President’s call for accountability, particularly on alleged irregularities in flood control projects and other government concerns.

The manifesto also noted that Vice President Duterte remains “unperturbed and unbowed” despite what it described as political attacks, with the group offering prayers for her safety, strength, and stability.

At the same time, members of the group stressed that Rep. Abante—who is also known as a religious leader—does not speak for their community, especially on current political issues involving the Vice President.

Photos released alongside the statement showed pastors personally delivering the manifesto at the office of Rep. Harold Duterte, raising clenched fists as a symbol of unity and support.

While the document does not directly criticize Abante, the group’s clarification signals a clear effort to distance their position from the congressman.

The move by the religious leaders is expected to add to the growing list of groups expressing support for Vice President Sara Duterte amid intensifying political developments in the country.
