Bong Go assists in recovery, rebuilding efforts of fire victims in Davao City
Mr. Malasakit Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, through his Malasakit Team, extended additional support to recovering fire victims in Matina, Davao City on Thursday, January 16.

In a message, Senator Go reminded the victims of the importance of prioritizing and valuing life, saying "Sa mga apektadong pamilya, huwag ho kayong mawalan ng pag-asa. Sabi ko nga sa inyo noon, ang gamit ay nabibili, ang pera ay kikitain, subalit 'yung perang kikitain ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever. Pangalagaan at ingatan po natin ang buhay at kalusugan ng bawat isa.”

As the principal author and co-sponsor of the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act 2021, the senator also advocates for enhanced firefighting capabilities. The law aims to strengthen the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) by modernizing its equipment, hiring more personnel, and offering specialized training programs to ensure prompt and efficient responses to fire emergencies.

Senator Go, in coordination with the Local Government Unit of Davao City, also collaborated with the National Housing Authority (NHA) to provide housing assistance through the Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP), an initiative strongly supported by Senator Go to help families rebuild their homes.

“Sa ilalim ng programang ito na ating isinulong, mabibigyan ang mga benepisyaryo ng tulong para pambili ng materyales tulad ng mga pako at yero na pampatayo muli ng kanilang mga nasirang bahay,” Senator Go explained.

Recognizing the burden that the victims faced, Senator Go and his Malasakit team gave food packs, snacks, vitamins, shirts, basketballs, and volleyballs to 39 beneficiaries gathered. Select recipients also received shoes and a watch.

The relief distribution was also attended by Barangay 76-A Captain Robert Olanolan, Panacan Barangay Captain Ericson Batican, and Barangay 8-A Captain James Abadilla.

Senator Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography and a health reforms crusader, extended additional support to residents in need of medical care. He encouraged them to utilize the services of the Malasakit Center in the city, located at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).

First established in 2018, the Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop that brings together concerned agencies to provide indigent patients with access to medical assistance programs.

Through Republic Act No. 11463, which Go principally authored and sponsored, qualified public hospitals now feature Malasakit Centers. Currently, 166 Malasakit Centers have been established, benefiting over 15 million Filipinos, as per Department of Health reports.

“Patuloy po akong magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” underscored Senator Go.
