Bill seeking to expand Davao Light franchise area pushed anew
Davao del Norte governor Edwin Jubahib welcomed the filing of House Bill (HB) 6740 which seeks to expand the franchise area of Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC).

HB 6740, authored by PBA Partylist representative Lawyer Margarita Ignacia Nograles seeks the expansion of the Aboitiz Power firm to include Tagum City, Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), Asuncion, Kapalong, New Corella, San Isidro, and Talaingod. All in Davao del Norte.

The municipality of Maco in Davao de Oro also included in the proposed bill.

These areas are currently being serviced by the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative (Nordeco).

Jubahib said, if the bill will be enacted into law, this will be considered as a major milestone for Davao del Norte as this will bring about positive change to the lives of our constituents, providing them with reliable and efficient power supply.

“This will lead to a more sustainable and productive environment, driving economic growth and development in Davao del Norte,” he said in a report released by the governor’s office.

He said HB 6740 is a necessary piece of legislation that must be passed into law.

Jubahib said the residents of his province are currently suffering the perennial problem of unstable power supply and exorbitant power rates.

He also said the problem has hindered the growth and development of our province, and it is time for this to change.

“With this, I fully support Atty. Nograles’ efforts to bring about this change and I urge our lawmakers to pass House Bill 6740 into law,” he said.

The expansion of the energy services provided by Davao Light through the passing of the bill will bring a much-needed solution to this issue, he added.
