Senior Fire Officer (SFO) 4 Ramil Gillado, spokesperson and chief of the intelligence of the Davao City Fire District said there were 531 fire incidents that happened in the whole year of 2022 where estimated damage to property reached P63-Million and recorded three fatalities and nine injured.
He said the two top areas of fire incidents include residential areas and rubbish and grass fires.
“Comparing the month of January 2022 and 2023, there was a reduction of fire incidents from 45 fire incidents to 38 fire incidents in 2023 or tantamount to a 15 percent reduction, attributed to our information and education advocacy against fire incidents in the barangays,” Gillado said during AFP-PNP Press Corps briefing Wednesday (Feb.15) at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.
He noted no fire incidents in the business establishments because of the yearly inspection done with the renewal of business permits.
Gillado said they focus much on the barangays discussing with the residents and their officials the things to do when roads are blocked by their parked vehicles or roads too small to maneuver for the fire trucks.
“We map the areas that are prone to fire incidents in the barangays and we conduct fire prevention activities with them,” he said.
Gillado observed that the people themselves are aware of what to do in case a fire incident breaks out in their area. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
