Aid for Davao City flood victims continues

The Davao City Government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), continuously provides assistance to victims of the January 4 flood.

“Ang atoang CSWDO is continuous ang ilahang paghatag sa tabang ug mga ayuda sa mga affected families,” City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) chief Retired Police Colonel Alfredo Baloran said in an interview Monday (Jan. 6).

Heavy rainfall due to localized thunderstorms that affected the Matina area's tributaries as well as other areas in the city  was the source of the flooding incident on Saturday.

CDRRMO rescue teams, including the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, were sent out to help residents get to authorized evacuation centers. The evacuees immediately received medical care and hot meals.

The number of affected families reached 617: 132 of them were from Matina Pangi, 415 families from Matina Crossing, and 70 from Matina Aplaya.

According to initial reports, a total of 15 houses in Matina Pangi were damaged while five houses in Matina Crossing were destroyed.

Baloran said the families in the Matina area voluntarily went to the evacuation areas and returned to their respective homes when the flood water  subsided.

He also advised Dabawenyos who live in low-lying areas to always be prepared for evacuation. CIO
