DepEd Davao Region is continuing efforts to provide metal detectors to schools as part of measures to strengthen campus security.

DepEd 11 spokesperson Jenielito Atillo said the agency cannot immediately provide security equipment to all schools but is making efforts to acquire additional units whenever funds are available.

“We really cannot provide all, but the gesture of trying to provide is with us,” Atillo said during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps media briefing on Wednesday at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.

Atillo said DepEd has already purchased metal detectors for some schools, with plans to acquire more equipment as funding permits.

“We have bought some metal detectors for some schools and it is continuing. We try to add more, if we have the funds,” he added.

His remarks came amid heightened calls for stronger security in schools following the recent shooting incident at Ateneo de Zamboanga University that left two students dead.
