The PNP in its report said the suspect identified as Jerson Pantaleon,30 was blackmailing the lady victim by exposing their photos and sex videos online.
Pantaleon was arrested in an entrapment operation in Taguig City on February 17, for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children and Robbery Extortion in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The complaint came from his 60-year-old ex-girlfriend who sought police intervention regarding the actions of the suspect.
The report revealed that in order to mislead the victim from thinking that he was the person behind the said extortion, Pantaleon created a fictitious person and sent out extortion messages to himself using a different sim card number to make it appear that he too, was being extorted.
PNP chief General Dionardo Carlos said the suspect tried to deceive the victim, however, due to the technical capability of its personnel, they were able to trace the suspect and outsmarted him.
“The landscape of criminality has been extending to the internet or technology at large, so we have to double our efforts in learning the ropes,” Carlos said.
Carlos said this is how the PNP organization embraces the advanced strategies in preventing crimes.
