Mayor elect ‘Baste’ Duterte to prioritize economic recovery, poverty alleviation
DAVAO CITY: Mayor elect Sebastian ‘Baste’ Duterte said that his incoming administration will prioritize economic recovery and poverty alleviation as he rallied Dabawenyos for their continued support and cooperation for a stronger and better future for the city.

“The City Government will make sure that business will continue to operate. Job opportunities will be available and our citizens remain safe and healthy,” Duterte said during his inaugural speech held in front of the City Hall Monday afternoon (June 27).

The Presidential son addressed the crowd gathered outside the City Hall building shortly after taking his oath before Judge Loida Posadas-Kahulugan inside the session hall of the Sangguniang Panglungsod.

Duterte said the city government will closely coordinate with the local and foreign business sectors to explore more investment opportunities for Davaoeños, adding he will be open to suggestions from partners in the business community to enhance the business climate in the city.

His areas of focus are efficient public service, agriculture, infrastructure, peace and order, health, and a sustainable environment.

Baste assured that his administration would work to ensure that the businesses will continue to operate and job opportunities will be available.

He said he will further push for the digitalization of public transactions for efficient government processes, saying the city will strive to observe laws on Ease of Doing Business and in partnership with the Anti-Red Tape Authority. He said, “Inefficiency in local government will not be tolerated."

“It is our goal of digitizing of public transactions, the delivery of government services must be swifter and much more efficient, it is high time that we upgraded our processes on par with international standards,” he said.

He said the local government will also ensure global competitiveness in terms of government operations, which he said taking advantage of available technology will make the government keep up with the fast changing trends in the market.

“The transacting public deserves the best public service experience,” Duterte said.

He vowed to pursue the streamlining of government processes and declared that inefficiencies in the government will not be tolerated.

Duterte also gave assurance to support the modernization of agriculture by providing farmers with agricultural inputs and technologies to boost food production.

He, likewise sought the implementation of the pieces of legislation that were passed while he was vice mayor such as the Single-Use Plastic Ordinance and Conservation area protection.

He is also committed to continuing the implementation of the city government's big-ticket projects including the Waste to Energy project, Coastal Road, the By-Pass road Tunnel, and High Priority Bus System and would aim to put high-impact infrastructure development outside the city centers such as roads and bridges and the Davao City Hospital.

Baste said Peace and Order will remain a priority under his leadership, urging the security forces to ensure that people can do their everyday tasks safely.

The Peace 911, he said, will continue providing development in the far-flung barangays.

He also vowed a strong hand against name-dropping and criminal acts.

“When it comes to the law we are all equal, do not believe in name-dropping,” he said.

The mass oath-taking of newly elected local government officials including the younger Duterte and Congressional District Representatives was witnessed by his family, his father President Rodrigo Duterte, mother Elizabeth, and  sister Vice-President elect Sara Duterte.
