The earthquake which occurred at 2:02 p.m. had its epicenter at 07.50°N, 126.20°E - 008 km S 52° E of the municipality of New Bataan.
The quake was tectonic in origin felt at the following intensities:
Intensity 5- Nabunturan, Davao de Oro
Intensity 4- City of Tagum, Davao del Norte
Intensity 3- Davao City, Davao Del Sur; Malungon, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato
Intensity 2 - Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte; Talakag, Malaybalay, Bukidnon; Magpet, Kidapawan City, Carmen, Banisilan, Cotabato; Abuyog, Leyte; Alabel, Sarangani; Koronadal City, South Cotabato; Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
The tremor was also felt at Intensity 1 - Kadingilan, Bukidnon; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte; Baybay and Dulag, Leyte; Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental; Kiamba, Sarangani; Norala, Suralla, Tantangan, Banga and General Santos City, South Cotabato; Esperanza, Columbio, Isulan and President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat; Surigao City, Surigao Del Norte; and Tandag, Surigao del Sur.
Davao de Oro Governor Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga immediately suspended all work and classes in all levels for both public and private schools in the province following the quake.
Patients and watchers, meanwhile, are being evacuated outside the Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital in Maragusan town after the tremor.
Municipal Mayor Angelito Cabalquinto went to the hospital to check personally the situation of the patients.
Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib also suspended the work and classes in all levels of private and public schools in the entire province in the wake of the strong earthquake that struck several areas in Davao de Oro earlier this afternoon.
As of press time, there were no reported casualties in the province.
