DSWD-XI uses drop box for Educational Assistance applications
DAVAO CITY (PIA)- The Department odf Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is doing away with walk-in applicants for its educational assistance as it is using the drop box system.

“For region 11 naa tay gina employ na drop box mechanism wherein qualified students-in-crisis dalahon nila ilang requirements ihulog nila sa dropbox and they will wait for the message confirming the next schedule where they will return for the assessment,” DSWD-XI Regional Director Atty Vanessa Goc-ong said.

The drop box mechanism is being instituted as to prevent the inconvenience brought to applicants for the educational assistance.

Last August 20, long lines were seen along the DSWD regional office as people queued to apply for educational assistance and also those for the payout of the said assistance.

“One of the problem is the venue probably one of the factors is na-unahay ang mga tao despite the advise given by our Secretary (DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo) that the payout will be  six Saturdays,” RD Goc-ong said.

The DSWD Regional Director said the current regional office and the satellite offices cannot cater to the influx of the crowd thus corrective measures were implemented for the August 27 payout like a bigger venue and the utilization of the drop box mechanism.

“Isa sa mechanism ang dropbox why we controlled the huge number of people. So, it is ongoing people going to the office can just drop their requirements at the dropbox subject for assessment,” DSWD Assistant Regional Director for Operations Merlinda Paragamac said.

The August 20 educational assistance payout in Davao Region had served 3,337 beneficiaries amounting to P8,113,000. (PIA/RG Alama)
