Davao City fails to achieve daily target goal in 3-day ‘Bakunahan’ drive
DAVAO CITY- Dr. Michelle Schlosser, the spokesman of the city’s COVID-19 Task Force here admitted Thursday the city did not achieve the daily target of individuals to get vaccinated during the 3-day ‘Bayanihan Bakunahan’ drive against COVID-19 on November 29 to December 1.

She said the city targets 47,000 individuals per day, however this has not been achieved despite the city government's pooling of all resources and the all-out support of other public and private sectors.

The city had administered only a total of 75,476 residents on the 3-day ‘Bayanihan Bakunahan’ drive against Covid-19.

Data from the city’s COVID-19 Task Force showed that of the total number of persons vaccinated, 59,807 were inoculated for the first dose, 13, 751 with the second dose, and 1,918 were administered with booster dose.

“We did all the steps that we could do. The local government of Davao gave its support, we also provided logistics and human resources for the vaccination rollout. Some people cooperated alongside councilors and vice mayor’s office and all of the public and private sector. This boils down to the cooperation of people themselves,” Schlosser said.

Schlosser also noted that some Dabawenyos still have “vaccine hesitancy” and this contributed to the non-achievement of the target.

“We cannot eradicate the fact that there is still vaccine hesitancy. We encourage people to expand their knowledge regarding vaccination so that we can reach 100 percent herd immunity, this cannot be done without the help and the cooperation of people,” Schlosser further said.

In fact, she said the city continues to conduct massive information dissemination through social media, mainstream media, and dialogues with the sectors that need in-depth knowledge on vaccines to address vaccine hesitancy.

Schlosser, meanwhile, said that the consultations with members of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas have paid off following the high turnout of vaccination in the areas of Marilog and Paquibato districts where the consultations had been conducted.

Mayor Sara Duterte earlier expressed optimism of a huge turnout of the vaccination rollout and  its contribution to achieving herd immunity.
