58 NPA rebel returnees in Davao del Norte get aid
DAVAO CITY- Some 58 former members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) received various assistance from the provincial government of Davao del Norte.

Forty rebel returnees each received P10,000 from the Localized Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) while 18 others also received TUPAD assistance worth P4,330.00, each.

Sixteen children affected by the armed conflict were also given school supplies.

The awarding ceremony which was held at Davao Del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City on Tuesday (June 13) happened during the province’s celebration of its first year anniversary of insurgency-free status.

Senator Christopher Lawrence 'Bong' Go graced the occasion alongside Davao Del Norte Governor Edwin I Jubahib. 

Go, in his message lauded the province, the 10th Infantry Division, and other parts of the security sector for achieving an Insurgency-Free province. 

“This opens new doors of opportunity for economic growth, social development, and sustainable peace. It signifies the dawn of a brighter future where our people can thrive, our businesses can flourish, and our children can grow up in a safe and secure environment,” Go said. 

Major General Jose Eriel M. Niembra, 10ID Commander, urged everyone to remain vigilant, united, and committed to the principles that brought the province free from the influence of the Communist Terrorist Group. 

"Together, we have shown the world what can be accomplished when we work together, setting aside our differences and focusing on our shared vision. The journey towards lasting peace and sustainable development may be challenging, but we have proven that it is not impossible," Niembra said. 

In 2016, four NPA Guerilla Fronts and two NPA vertical units operated in Davao Del Norte. However, in 2022, these units were all dismantled.
