The suspects were identified as Vilma Calunsod alias Tanya, the Political Instructor of the NPA’s Regional Operation Command and Sergio Catampao alias Baytol, alleged commanding officer of the Weakened Guerilla Front 18.
Also arrested through a warrant of arrest was WGF 18 secretary, Narabel Verana alias Liway.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 in its report said Calunsod has standing two warrants of arrest (WA) for ANTI-TRAFICKING IN PERSONS ACT OF 2003 and CRIMINAL CASE FOR SPECIAL PROTECTION OF CHILDREN IN SITUATIONS OF ARMED CONFLICT ACT or Republic Act 11188.
Catampao also had three standing WA for SERIOUS ILLEGAL DETENTION, ANTI-TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS, AND MURDER.
Verana, meanwhile had also standing WA for MURDER issued before the Regional Trial Court (RTC), 11th Judicial Region, Branch 5, Mati City in Davao Oriental.
The arrested suspects are now under the custody of the Philippine Army’s 701st Brigade based in Sitio Magay, Barangay Don Martin Marundan, Mati City.
PRO 11 director Brigadier General Benjamin Silo Jr. lauded the efforts of the participating PNP units with its military counterpart for the successful operation.
He said the operation greatly contributes to the strategic peace and security framework of the chief of the Philippine National Police, General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. which is the MKK=K (Malasakit, Kaayusan, Kapayapaan tungo sa Kaunlaran).
MKK=K is the PNP's way of separating the criminals from the society for a more peaceful and safe Davao Region and in support of the PNP's mantra, "Life is Beautiful, Kaligtasan nyo, sagot ko."
