DAVAO CITY (PIA)--Surrender and more weapons discovered marked the 16th year anniversary celebration of the 10th Infantry Division in South Eastern Mindanao Area.

Captain Mark Anthony Tito, spokesperson of the 10th ID during Wednesday’s media briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel said their celebration was preceded by the surrender in August 16, of the last bomb-maker in the rebel movement identified as alias Delmar who gave in to the members of the 25th Infantry Battalion in Monkayo, Davao de Oro.

“Delmar in his revelation bared that he is the last bombmaker in the Southern Mindanao Revolutionary Committee area,” he said.

Tito said that on August 17, four firearms composed of two Armalite rifles, one M-203 grenade-launcher and one M-14 rifles were discovered by the troops through the assistance of Ka Baytol and Ka Radz, former officers of the weakened guerrilla front 18 in Barangay San Isidro, Lupon, Davao Oriental.

He revealed that a day thereafter, Davao Occidental was declared as insurgency-free by the military leadership during the opening of its new legislative building.

Tito recalled that in 2016, the 10th ID had been confronting 17 guerrilla fronts, six pulang bagani commands, and five sub-regional committees under the rebel movement for the past years.

“This was the effect of the whole-of-nation-approach through good governance by the National Task Force to End the Communist Armed Conflict spearheaded by former President Rodrigo Duterte,” he said.

Tito bared that currently, the 10th ID is confronting two guerrilla fronts, namely the weakened guerrilla front 18 in Davao Oriental and the weakened guerrilla front committee 57 in the boundary of North Cotabato and Bukidnon.  (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
