Sta. Rosa lass wins 2nd place in FIDE World School Chess Championship
DAVAO CITY---A promising 14-year-old lady chess player from Sta. Rosa City placed second in the tough FIDE World School Chess Championship 2023.

Only 0.5 points separated the runner-up, women's national master Kaye Lalaine Regidor, from the winner, Englishwoman Eugenia Karas, who earned 7.0 points to take first place.

Among 27 competitors for the Under 15 category in the recently finished FIDE World School Chess Championship 2023 at the luxurious Rodos Palace Hotel in the breathtaking Rhodes Island in the South Aegean Region of Greece, the student from Aplaya National High School-Annex won a silver medal and a trophy after nine rounds.

This important tournament attracted participants from 53 nations. 

The Philippine Sports Commission, Department of Education, and the City Government of Santa Rosa, under the leadership of Mayor Arlene B. Arcillas and Vice Mayor Arnold B. Arcillas, supported the team under the direction of Education Program Supervisor Mr. Mario V. Zantua and Coach Woman International Master Shania Mae Mendoza. 

Wayne Ruiz, Mark Gabriel Usman, and Francheska Largo, three additional kids from Santa Rosa City's Schools Division, also participated in the competition.

In the Under-17 division, the latter finished in 10th place.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
