Davao's Miciano targets crown in 2021 Philippine National Chess Championship
DAVAO CITY---Davaoeno International Master John Marvin Miciano is among the select group of top Filipino chessers competing in the ongoing 2021 Philippine National Chess Championship (Barkadahan Para sa Bansa FIDE-rated over-the-board Chess Championships at the Solea Hotel and Resort in Mactan, Cebu.

Miciano, a former chess varsity player of Far Eastern University is aiming to win the tournament which offers slots to the AIMAG set in Bangkok and Chonburi, Thailand in 2023.

Aside from the AIMAG slot, the tournament also offers a champion’s purse worth P80,000 plus P50,000 and P25,000 for the second and third placers, respectively.

The Davaoeno woodpusher is very busy as of late competing in international chess tournaments in order to earn points so that he will be become a GM, the highest title a chess player can attain.

On May 1-10, Miciano landed in 22nd place in the tough 3.3 Asian Zonal Chess Championships 2021 which features six nations.

Miciano scored five points after nine rounds of intense chess action in the online chess tournament featuring some of the top chess players in Asia. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
