DAVAO CITY – Aside from lefty Davaoeno sharpshooter Allyn Bulanadi, Monkayo, Davao de Oro scorer Rey Suerte could also play for Gilas Pilipinas in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup Qualifiers on February 24 to 28.

It was learned that the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) wanted Suerte to play in the February tournament.

Earlier, it was learned that Suerte is eyed by 3 teams to play in Japan.

Sources said three teams from the B League in Japan are eyeing to get Suerte.

Suerte, a former University of Mindanao Davao City campus college basketball varsity played well in the recent Gilas wins against Thailand in Manama, Bahrain last year.

Suerte made a name for himself when he transferred to Cebu City and played for the University of Visayas Green Lancers.

He carried the Green Lancers to three college basketball titles.

After his stint with the Lancers, Suerte played for the University of the East Red Warriors where he led the team in scoring.

Suerte is happy to represent the Philippines in an international basketball competition. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
