The trio, veterans of local, national, and international chess tournaments, scored 13 points to win the P30,000 champion's purse.
The second place went to former La Salle chess varsity Aglipay Oberio, National Master Aglipay Eight Oberio, Kenneth Tabada, and Sherwin “Sure Win” Orbeta, who won P20,000 after scoring 12 points.
The third place went to Davao Del Norte’s youngest National Master, Christian Gian Karlo Arca, CDO’s chess icon Allan Cantonjos, and Panabo City’s living legend Gerald Cavan who won P15,000.
A total of 18 teams, including two from the Visayas, joined the tournament, which offered a total of P80,000 to the winners.
The tournament was organized to celebrate the fourth founding anniversary of the Dr. Marlonsky Chess Center, owned by Dr. Marlon L. Sayson Jr. and managed by Irwin Dang Aton.
The tournament was officiated by Davao's experienced arbiters, National Arbiter Ely Acas and FA JoGen Palero.
Sayson offered all the participants a sumptuous lunch and snacks as a treat.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
