DAVAO CITY---A Filipina will compete in Division I volleyball in the United States.
Jillian Santos, an outside hitter, has transferred from Ateneo de Manila University to the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC).
The University of Illinois at Chicago Flames compete in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Santos, 19, transferred to Ateneo after graduating from the University of Santo Tomas High School last year.
During UAAP Season 82, she was a "COVID-19" reserve for the Blue Eagles while recovering from an injury.
A few months ago, Jill and her brother Jericho, who attends Ateneo High School, had to travel to America for a family emergency. It was there that they were found.
Jill and the Flames opened their season on Saturday, defeating South Dakota State and NJIT 3-2 and 3-0 in the NIU Tournament.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
