Sen. Bong Go's team brings additional aid to fire-hit families in Bukidnon, presses for safer communities amid rising heat risks
Senator Christopher "Bong" Go's team extended assistance to recovering families affected by separate fire incidents on Wednesday, April 29, as part of the senator's continuing support for communities trying to recover after losing homes, belongings, and sources of security.

The relief activities covered three separate distributions. Go's team assisted five affected families at the Barangay Poblacion Hall in Don Carlos, Bukidnon. The team also provided aid to 20 fire-hit families at the Barangay Patag Covered Court, followed by another distribution at Rety Mellisa Yacapin Gymnasium for 22 affected families from Barangay Agusan.

“Importante po sa akin ang buhay at kalusugan ng bawat Pilipino. Sabi ko nga, ang gamit ay mabibili natin ‘yan, ang pera ay kikitain ‘yan kung magsusumikap tayo. Pero ang buhay, hindi po nabibili. Importante pong buhay tayo, at kilala po ang mga Pilipino sa pagtutulungan,” Go said in a message.

Beneficiaries were provided with essential aid, including financial assistance, water containers, snacks, vitamins, balls, shirts, and grocery packs to help them recover from the incident. Others also received shoes from Go’s team.

Beyond providing aid, Go emphasized the importance of strengthening fire prevention and emergency preparedness, especially in communities vulnerable to fire-related disasters.

Go likewise acknowledged the efforts of national government agencies conducting on-site assessments to ensure that affected families receive adequate and sustained support.

He highlighted Republic Act No. 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Modernization Act of 2021, which he principally authored and co-sponsored. The law aims to strengthen the country's firefighting capabilities through the acquisition of modern equipment, enhanced training, and improved institutional support.

Amid intensifying heat conditions this summer, Go also stressed the importance of preventive health measures against heat stroke, urging communities to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and seek early medical attention when symptoms arise. He also called on local government units (LGUs) to strengthen public awareness campaigns on heat preparedness.

Go, who serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, also extended an offer of medical support to residents facing health concerns and encouraged them to avail themselves of available government services.

The Malasakit Centers program continues to serve as a one-stop shop that consolidates assistance from various government agencies to help reduce hospital expenses for indigent patients. Institutionalized under RA 11463, which Go principally authored and sponsored in 2019, the program has assisted over 17 million Filipinos through 167 operational centers nationwide, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

In Bukidnon, one such center is located at the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital in Maramag.

“Magseserbisyo po ako sa abot ng aking makakaya dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at naniniwala ako na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo sa Diyos,” Go concluded.
