HSBC celebrates 150 years in PH; commits to Davao’s global potential
Davao City – Sandeep Uppal, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and head of banking of Hongkong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Philippines said the company will continue to invest in Davao in light of its continued infrastructure development and growing appeal as an ASEAN trade gateway.

“Because  we believe that Davao is a great city and a great economy and most of all its fantastic people, “ Uppal said during the 150 years celebration of HSBC in the Philippines held at Grand Ballroom of Discovery   Samal in the Island Garden City of Samal, Friday night, June 20.

HSBC’s presence in Davao began 18 years ago, with the opening of its first branch in Mindanao in 2007. Since then, the Bank has been a steady partner in the city’s growth as one of the Philippines’ fastest-rising economic centers.

In 2022, it reaffirmed this commitment by unveiling a refreshed branch in Ayala Malls Abreeza—bringing international banking closer to Davao’s thriving community of professionals, entrepreneurs, and globally-minded families.

“Our 18-year journey in Davao reflects our commitment to stay deeply rooted in communities that are shaping the future of the country—and to help connect them with opportunities not just here, but across Asia, Europe, and the Americas,” Uppal said.

Davao’s economic rise is nothing short of impressive. Its continued infrastructure development and growing appeal as an ASEAN trade gateway, has made the city a major player on the regional stage.

HSBC is well-positioned to support this momentum with its international expertise, wealth management solutions, and award-winning banking services—tailored for customers with a global mindset, according to Uppal.

The celebration in Davao is part of HSBC Philippines’ broader 150th anniversary campaign, which pays tribute to its heritage while embracing a future of inclusive, innovative, and globally connected banking.

With six branches nationwide and a suite of cross-border solutions, HSBC continues to be the preferred international financial partner for Filipinos ready to take on the world.

“It’s a privilege to be celebrating this milestone here in Davao—a city that reflects the very spirit of progress and promise,” Pramoth Rajendran, Head of International Wealth and Premier of HSBC Philippines said in a statement.

“Our customers here are ambitious, global, and passionate about creating a better future for their families. At HSBC, we’re proud to be their partner—whether they’re planning for their children’s education, growing their business, or investing across borders, he said.

The celebration was  an evening of music, milestones, and meaningful connections as HSBC Philippines brought its 150th anniversary celebration to Davao City, honoring its deep roots in the region and spotlighting a future of boundless global opportunity.

The event welcomed clients, partners, business leaders, and local dignitaries for a night that seamlessly blended heritage and aspiration. The program was capped with a dazzling performance by OPM icon Gary Valenciano, whose music set the perfect tone for the occasion.

Among the attendees were the  President and CEO of the University of Mindanao, Dr. Guillermo Torres Jr.
