Duterte was invited as the keynote speaker during the Fellowship Night of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines 50th Founding Anniversary at the Waterfront Insular Hotel here.
“I’d like to thank our Honorable Justices of the Supreme Court for their advice to me as the Secretary of the Department of Education. I sought their advice on how to help our public school teachers with regard to their loan obligations. They gave me good advice, and I am looking forward to partnering with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines to help our public school teachers with regard to their problems sa mga utang nila at sa mga kontrata nila. Maraming salamat po sa inyo,” Duterte said.
The Vice President is also the Secretary of Education.
Duterte, in her speech, shared that the Department of Education is currently pursuing two tracks to try and solve the problems in basic education.
“One is the traditional track — which is to hire more teachers, to build more classrooms, to address the problems of the learners of school infrastructures, books, and gadgets,” Duterte said.
“The other track is to leverage on available technology worldwide — that is to create electronic classrooms, to subscribe to electronic libraries, to subscribe to electronic books, and amplify the best teachers through technology,” she added.
Duterte lauded the IBP for becoming more responsive and attuned to the needs of the times and the accompanying technological advancements that come with modernization.
“As the Integrated Bar of the Philippines celebrates its golden year, may this be a reminder and a motivation for us to keep going above and beyond the call of duty in upholding the law to serve the poor, disadvantaged, deprived, oppressed, and defenseless,” Duterte said. (PR)
