According to Duterte whose message was read by Councilor Temujin Ocampo of the city’s first district and chairperson of the City Council Committee on Environment said the use of plastic is considered to be one of the most pressing environmental concerns today that demands urgent action.
“Hence, we are grateful to the UN-Habitat as well as to the Government of Japan for being our partner and for funding the implementation of the Plastic 3R Pilot Project,” Duterte said.
The said project recycles plastic for use in the production of construction materials and it is designed to reduce marine plastic pollution in Philippine waters.
The mayor also commended the Bantay Dagat Volunteers Association of Davao for being at the helm of this project.
The preparations for the realization of this vision would not have been possible without all of your support, Duterte said.
“This recycling facility is a momentous step towards our shared goal to reduce the plastic litter in the city through the improvement of our waste management system,” he said.
“As we formally inaugurated it today, may we all be inspired to take responsibility in fostering environmental stewardship,” he said.
Duterte urged Davaoeños to join in this transformative journey toward a greener and more sustainable Davao City.
Ocampo, meanwhile, also urged other Local Government Units and private institutions as well to also do the same practice. He said he hopes that this project will also be replicated in other neighboring areas.
Ocampo also shared the best practices for environment protection that his office is doing such as sustainable livelihood programs for the women sector.
