Engineer Rolando V. Sampaga, NTC-11Enforcement and Operations Division chief, said that they are fast-tracking the establishment of SIM registration facilities in the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).
This collaborative initiative brings together the Local Government Units (LGUs), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
“We provide assistance, so customers no longer need to go to the telcos, as they are immediately coordinating with their LGU," Sampaga said during the recent press conference led by DICT-11 as part of the celebration of the Regional Information Communications Technology month at the University of Mindanao.
As the SIM registration has been extended to another 90 days or up to July 25 this year, the NCT-11official has reminded the public to be mindful in registering their SIM cards before the deadline to avoid inconveniences.
Under the Republic Act11934 or the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Law, once the SIM is not registered within the given period, it will automatically get deactivated.
Once the SIM is deactivated, the user can no longer make outgoing and incoming calls, send and receive text messages, have internet access, remaining load balances will be forfeited, and no access to online banking and e-wallets.
Sampaga has called on the public to support the mandatory SIM card registration, reassuring that the law warrants the consumers' right to privacy and provides safety from text scams and other digital criminalities. (Blessy Faith Montales/Intern/PIA Davao Region)
