More water level devices installed for disasters in Davao City
The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will be installing more flood or high sea water level warning devices with the onset of the rainy season.

The City Information Office reported that CDRRMO is currently in the process of installing more sirens, river cameras, and coastal cameras for this purpose.

"Actually in our impact areas we added additional early warning system and we have an ongoing installation of additional early warning system -- city-wide sirens so that we can immediately issue warnings to our residents, we also added river cameras in the upper part of our river channels and we have cameras located at the coastal,” Baloran said.

Baloran said the new equipment will be used for their continued monitoring  as the city is experiencing localized thunderstorms.

He said that on Tuesday evening, they monitored a slight increase in water level at the Talomo and Davao rivers but started subsiding as of Wednesday Morning.

The river camera is being placed upstream of Lipadas River, which will help early information dissemination and early advice for possible evacuation of those living downstream.

Additional city-wide sirens are also being installed at Arroyo Compound, near the Matina River, and in Barangay 5-A near the river mouth.

There is also an ongoing installation of coastal cameras in Barangay 76-A. These are 360 cameras that monitor the sea and surrounding areas.

Baloran added that aside from the additional devices that will provide warning to residents, they are also in close coordination with the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils

"If there are weather disturbances we always extend our warning to the people on the ground, our barangay volunteers and responders who are also always ready in times of weather disturbances,” Baloran said.

Baloran encouraged the public to listen and to read advisories provided by their office on various channels to avoid danger in times of calamities.
