More Davaoeños availed of the free no-scalpel vasectomy in 2023, according a Davao City Health Office (CHO) official.

Jerrielyn Lewis, head of the CHO’s City Population Division, said 107 Davaoeños availed of Free NSV in 2023, which was higher than their 2022 record of 74 people.

Lewis said that the NSV is a non-intrusive family planning method, wherein unlike the traditional practice focused on the women in the family, the husbands are the ones involved in the process.

“This method is not only a form of the husband’s participation in family planning, but also an act of love towards his family as this can help ensure that the planned size of their family can be fulfilled,” Lewis said in a report from the City Information Office.

Lewis said that her division will intensify information dissemination regarding NSV.

They are also planning to revive the NSV outreach program, where their team go to far-flung areas to cater to Davaoeños who want to avail of the service.

“We will continue intensifying the information dissemination regarding the NSV, and we will also revive the NSV Outreach, wherein our team will go to far-flung areas to cater to patients who wish to avail of the service,” she said.

Davaoeños are urged to consider the NSV as a family planning method.

The CHO conducts Free NSV every last Friday of the month.
