Mati City gets SGLG award anew
Mati City in Davao Oriental has again been included in the list of cities, provinces and municipalities to be awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for 2023.

Mati City was also bestowed with the same recognition in 2022.

A total of 28 provinces, 64 cities and 401 municipalities across the country were included in the SGLG list of awardees this year.

In Davao Region, only the province of Davao del Norte was included in the list, for cities in the region, Digos and Island Garden City of Samal are also in said list.

For municipalities in Davao Oriental, included in the list are Banaybanay, Cateel, Governor Generoso, Lupon, and San Isidro.

Under the SGLG program, Local Government Units must pass the following governance areas -- financial administration and sustainability; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business-friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace and order; environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture and arts; and youth development.

The total 493 awardees compose only 28.7% of the total 1,715 LGUs in the Philippines.

The SGLG program, evolving from the Seal of Good Housekeeping, was institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11292 or The Seal of Good Local Governance Act of 2019.
