OPAMINE head Secretary Leo Tereso Magno in his speech during the opening of peace village at SM City Davao on Monday (September 11) said that Davao Region has showcased to the rest of the country and world how to fight insurgency with peace and development.
“Today’s inauguration of this Peace Village is a testament that we have gone a long way in terms of peace and development in the Davao Region.
Magno thanked the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), the Local Government Units (LGUs) in the region, including all other agencies, groups and organizations for their unwavering commitment in creating a nurturing environment where peace, reconciliation and unity thrive.
Magno graced the opening of the Peace Village, an exhibit of Davao Region's peace and development together with Vice President Sara Z. Duterte who led the ribbon cutting.
Peace Village stands as a symbol of the government’s collective commitment to fostering peace, reconciliation and unity in the region.
Magno noted how Davao Region made a complete turnaround from being once known as one of the top lairs of insurgents to being insurgency-free.
The Dabawenyo secretary however cautioned the public not to be complacent as it would be challenging to maintain peace in the region.
“Achieving peace is monumental, but maintaining it is equally challenging. We have to instill among the future generations that the peace they are enjoying now is the result of the ultimate sacrifices of their ancestors, their parents. That way, they would know the value of maintaining peace,” Magno said.
