According to Major Ruben Gadut, 10th ID spokesman during Wednesday’s AFP-PNP Press Corps media briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, San Fernando became the first municipality in Region 10 to be declared insurgency-free.
Local Authorities, Indigenous People/Indigenous Cultural Communities (IP/ICCs), the Security Sectors, and other key stakeholder passed a resolution for said declaration.
The declaration came after a validation made by the Area Clearing Evaluation Board by the police and military which declared the dismantling of the NPA’s Sub-Regional, Sentro-de-Gabidad (SRSDG) PEDDLER of North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
Gadut said the SRSDG PEDDLER was the last NPA unit operating in the municipality of San Fernando following the dismantling of Guerilla Front 55 on December 14, 2021, and Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) 5 on December 6, 2022.
Brig. Gen. Marion Angcao , commander of the 1003rd Brigade who represents Maj. Gen. Allan Hambala, 10th ID commander in his message emphasizes the importance of unity and cooperation in achieving peace and prosperity for the residents of San Fernando.
Hambala highlighted the achievement as setting the stage for economic growth, social development, and an improved quality of life for the municipality's inhabitants.
San Fernando Mayor Rogelio Reke also emphasized the invaluable contributions of the soldiers under 10th ID for the achievements of his town, urging its residents to preserve the insurgency-free status, paving the way for enduring peace and development in the future.
San Fernando, among the ten municipalities of Southern Bukidnon officially became part of the 89th Infantry Battalion’s Area of Operation (AO) of 10th ID since October 1, 2023 following the issuance of Joint Task Force (JTF) Agila Operational Directive 04-2023 dated 29 September 2023.
The battalion's campaign is supported by its adjacent units, the 48th and 56th Infantry Battalion.
