The Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division based in Mawab, Davao de Oro said the 39th Infantry Battalion's initial findings indicate that the incident was not an armed encounter involving the New People’s Army (NPA), contrary to claims made by the group involved who identified themselves as NPA members.
According to the 10th ID statement released Friday, August 21 the shooting reportedly stemmed from a personal dispute involving a love triangle among members of the Blaan community in the area.
The 39th IB said it is coordinating with the individuals involved, local authorities, and other stakeholders to further establish the circumstances behind the incident and prevent possible escalation.
The unit also emphasized its continued efforts to maintain peace and order and help prevent similar incidents from happening in the community.
