Fourth ID spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Garello said two of the fatalities are ranking leaders of the NPA’s Sub-Regional Committee 1 (SRC1) of the so-called North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
Garello in his report said that the troops acted upon the information they received from concerned citizens in Barangay Bal-ason, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental who were attempting to regain their lost mass base through recruitment and extortion activities.
The firefight lasted 10 minutes and led to the death of Zaldy Galamiton alias Shaggy/Poldo, the Secretary of Sub-Regional Committee 1 and Jhonjhon Ayuma Ramos alias Erbing, the Commanding Officer of SRSDG Eagles, both under NCRMC.
The soldiers also captured two M16 rifles, bandoliers, magazines, ammunition, and personal belongings of the communist rebels in the encounter site.
Meanwhile, on May 20, Berto Dayong with aliases Sadam and Jenel was also killed in an encounter at Sitio Madbad, Bangonay, Jabonga, Agusan del Norte.
4th ID commander Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II commended his troops for swiftly responding to the reports of concerned citizens which thwarted the group in conducting atrocities in vulnerable communities.
Cuerpo thanked the community in these areas for the constant support they are giving to the government which resulted in the success of the operation.
