On January 29, the members of the 23rd Infantry Battalion encountered the NPA’s Sub-Regional Sentro De Gravidad (SRSDG) Sagay, Sub Regional Committee 3 (SRC3) of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) at Sitio Kipundaw, Brgy. Sangay, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.
Major Francisco Garello Jr., spokesman of 4th ID said the clash resulted in the deaths of two NPA rebels and the capture of another member who was abandoned by their escaping comrades.
The government troops also seized two high-powered firearms, including M16 and M4 rifles.
Garello said the fatalities and the arrested person have yet to be identified as of press time.
The no-let-up operations of 23IB for two weeks have resulted in the neutralization of nine personalities of SRSDG Sagay, of which, four died, three arrested, and two surrendered.
4ID Commander Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II lauded the tireless efforts of his troops for the successful pursuit operations and safeguarding of the communities.
Cuerpo assured that various military operations will be more extensive and aggressive to hunt down the remaining NPA rebels in all of its areas of responsibility.
